Course Description:
This 2-day ICD-10-CM Coding for Post-Acute Care course focuses on the diagnoses that are often seen in post-acute care residents. ICD-10-CM Coding accuracy is critical to Medicare payment with PDPM. Coding diagnoses in each resident’s Medical record is a very important task that must be completed with a high degree of accuracy.
This 2-day course will begin with ICD-10-CM coding basics: how to use the ICD-10-CM coding manual; where to find diagnoses in the documentation; who can diagnosis; the basics of finding a code from the main term through the final selection of highest degree in specificity in the tabular list; what the coding conventions are and why they are important; the Coding Guidelines, and Chapter specific guidelines. The course will teach basics followed by coding opportunities that will assist participants to put their new knowledge to work. Students will spent significant amounts of time determining the most accurate and specific codes for each of the body systems impacting post-acute care. Each of the body systems will be reviewed except the codes for infants, children and pregnancy since the class is specifically intended for post-acute care settings
Presenter:
Carol Maher is a Board Certified Gerontological Registered Nurse with over 30 years long term care experience who has been working with the MDS and Medicare PPS with single SNFs and large companies throughout her career. Carol is also a Certified Professional Coder (CPC). She has maintained her certification with continuing education and provides ICD-10-CM training to SNF clients across the country. Ms. Maher has authored and recorded and teaches the AAPACN certificate class regarding ICD-10-CM coding for Post-Acute Care.
