AHCA Regulatory Team Answers to Enhanced Barrier Precautions Questions

North Dakota (ND) DHHS Questions and Comments
Background:
North Dakota has guidance posted for Enhanced Barrier Precautions (EBP) on the Infection Prevention and Control Resources page of the ND Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) website. While these algin with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance, they did not update or incorporate the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) changes outlined in QSO-24-08-NH issued on March 20, 2024, including:

Flexibilities regarding use of signage to identify “who” is placed on EBP, and

Placement of personal protective equipment (PPE) for residents on EBP.
In August 2024 the ND Long Term Care Association compiled a list of questions and comments regarding EBP. Below is AHCA’s review of their questions and answers provided based on federal guidance from CMS and the CDC. Note – many questions ask for the same information, so some responses cross-reference earlier answers.
